What is structural strengthening?

Structural strengthening refers to the reinforcement of the original force-bearing structure, so as to meet the new requirements and safety, and save costs and reduce investment.

The existing concrete structure is affected by various factors such as the natural environment and the use environment, and exhibits different degrees of insufficient bearing capacity, excessive denaturation and other defects. Different reinforcement methods are proposed for the damage of the engineering structure.

Reasons for structural strengthening

In the 1950s and 1960s, China built a large number of reinforced concrete factories and public buildings and office buildings. These houses have a history of thirty-four years since their use. Due to improper use and maintenance or construction quality, many houses have one or other problems, some of which are quite serious and endanger structural safety. Due to the large investment in civil construction, despite the housing problems, it is often not demolished and rebuilt, but the method of structural reinforcement is adopted. As long as a small investment is spent on repair and reinforcement, its bearing capacity can be restored to ensure safe use.

In addition, 1. Due to the new use requirements, the original structure needs to be strengthened if the house is to be changed in use or laminated.

2. The design has reached the end of its service life, or the original structure cannot meet the requirements under the existing specifications. After structural identification, it needs to be strengthened. For example, after the Sichuan earthquake in 2008, a new seismic code was issued, and the original building could not meet the requirements of the existing code, then seismic reinforcement was needed.
